Trouble-shooting
Interactive Product Demonstrations
..................................
Product demonstrations are full-color full-size applications. A lot of
computer resources are used to achieve this level of visuality and
functionality.
Although product demonstrations will run in low memory systems, they will run
quite slowly (as is the case with many Multimedia applications).
The more memory available to the application, the faster it will run.
If you find that the product demonstrations run slowly or
if you encounter out-of-memory errors, or other error types, consider
doing the following:
l. Close all other running applications while the "Galaxy of Stars"
is running.
2. This program is designed to work with a 256 color driver. If you use
more than a 256-color driver for your display, you might want
to use a different driver with less colors. This can be done through the
Windows Setup program. See your Windows documentation for more information.
3. If you are running Windows in Enhanced mode, adjust the size of the swap file
on your hard disk. This can be done through the 386 Enhanced control panel.
See your Windows documentation for more information.
4. If your computer is connected to a network, disable sharing of directories
and files from the network control panel. See your Windows documentation for more information.
5. Be sure that you have the latest version of the Windows video drivers for
your display card and the latest Windows sound drivers for your sound card.
6. Defragment your hard disk by running a defragmentation program. If you are using MS-DOS
6.0 on your computer, this can be done by the DEFRAG utility that came with it. See your MS-
DOS 6.0 documentation for more information.
Sound Problems
If you are not getting sound in the World's Greatest Sound Effects or World's Greatest
Music Clips demos, and you have an 8-bit sound card, try re-installing Video for Windows.
Open the File menu in the Program Manager and choose Run. Type "D:\vid4win\setup" and press
enter (where "D" is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). Follow the instructions on the screen.
Be sure to restart Windows before running Galaxy of Stars again.
